Sustainability for us is all about using environmentally responsible products and managing their environmental impact. We conduct our operations in a manner that is ethical, transparent, proactive and sensitive to all stakeholders.

Our core areas of CSR

Our strategy behind sustainable development is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) outlined by the United Nations

  • Promotion of education, including special education and employment enhancing vocational skills.

  • Protection of national heritage, art and culture including restoration of buildings and sites of historical importance and works of art; setting up public libraries; promotion and development of traditional arts and handicrafts.

Construction of check dams

Construction of check dams

  • Today, the work done by Aakar Charitable Trust in Water Conservation and rain water harvesting by constructing Check Dams under the leadership of Mrs. Amla Ruia is continuously setting new benchmarks.

  • Led by Mrs. Ruia, over 360 Check Dams have been constructed in Rajasthan, Maharashtra & more.

  • Around 650 thousand people in 518 communities in rural India have benefitted from construction of these Check Dams. The villages are drought proof. The villagers now have a much enhanced lifestyle, are debt-free & above poverty line.

  • Indirectly benefited indicates 360 thousand people in 289 villages. The villagers have improved living conditions and are able to take two crops per year.

  • Impact: 1.42 billion litres of water saved through our check dams initiative which has impacted 73,024 lives.

  • As of July 2019, we have completed the construction of 368 check dams.

  • The total number of villages impacted are 518 & the total number of people impacted are 6,44,148.

Our malls are actively involved in water & energy conservation

  • We have installed LED lights in the parking areas, which has resulted in savings of 1,43,328 units in FY2019.

  • We have installed low flow aerator, waterless urinals, and low flush taps across washrooms in most of our functioning assets.

  • Sewage Treatment Plant water is used in Palladium Mall washrooms, hotel flushing and cooling tower. The STP water generated and reused was 69,843 KL in FY2019 compared to 64.463 KL in FY2018.

  • In Phoenix MarketCity, Mumbai, we replaced the incandescent lamps, tube lights, metal halides and halogen lamps with LED fittings for energy conservation.

  • We replaced the V belt to a Flat belt for our Common Area Air Handling Unit, which led to a 10% savings on AHU energy consumption.

  • We also installation OFF timers for our Common Area washroom exhaust and periphery lights, which led to a reduction in electricity units consumed.

Moving Towards Sustainable Power Sources

  • We introduced the use of Solar Power to help reduce 17,415 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. Based on EPA estimates, this is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by about 288,000 seedlings grown over a 10 year period or about 20,500 acres of forest in a year.

  • We replaced CFL lights with LED lights led to substantial savings in electricity

  • We upgraded the STP to significantly improve the quality of recycled water and increase usage case for the same

  • We have installed Electric Vehicle (EV) recharge points at the mall to encourage use of electric vehicles.
